Following Khamenei’s killing, Minister Araghchi reveals when Iran’s new leader will be chosen

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced in an interview with Al Jazeera that the process to select a new leader has begun following the killing of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. He stated that the constitutional process has already started and that a Transitional Council was formed on the same day, temporarily assuming leadership duties until a new supreme leader is chosen.

According to him, the Council consists of the country’s president, the head of the judiciary, and a jurist from the Guardian Council. Araghchi explained that this three-member body will exercise leadership duties until the election process is completed by the Assembly of Experts, noting that the selection of a new leader could take place within a day or two.

“Everything is proceeding smoothly, in accordance with our legal system and Constitution,” he emphasized.
