Iran has launched missiles toward Israel and several Arab states, striking the United States Embassy complex in Kuwait, as Israel and the United States intensified their bombardment of targets in Iran. Monday’s escalation of fighting was accompanied by defiant statements and a rising death toll.
Flames and smoke were seen inside the American diplomatic compound in Kuwait City, and alarms sounded following the Iranian attack. The strike occurred shortly after U.S. authorities had urged their citizens to take shelter and advised others to avoid the area. So far, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
Meanwhile, as U.S. and Israeli airstrikes continued, senior Iranian security official Ali Larijani stated on the social media platform X that “we will not negotiate with the United States.”
In Iraq, a pro-Iranian militia claimed responsibility for a drone attack on U.S. troops at Baghdad airport, one day after it had said it targeted a U.S. base in Erbil in the north of the country. Meanwhile, Cyprus announced that a drone attack had targeted a British base on the Mediterranean island.
Israel and the United States have bombed Iranian missile sites and targeted Iran’s naval forces, claiming to have destroyed the navy’s headquarters and several warships. According to Iranian authorities, more than 200 people have been killed since the attacks began.
As the bombardment continued, Hezbollah announced that it had launched rockets from Lebanon toward Israel in the early hours of Monday, in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and what it described as “repeated Israeli aggression.” This is the first attack the Lebanese militant group has claimed responsibility for in more than a year.
Israel responded with strikes in Lebanon, where, according to the country’s Ministry of Health, at least 31 people have been killed and 149 others injured. Around two-thirds of the victims are reported to be from the southern part of the country.
