Member of Parliament from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Vlora Çitaku, has called on the “parliamentary majority to reflect” following today’s meeting between PDK leader Bedri Hamza and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, where the issue of the President was discussed.
Çitaku said that Hamza did not attend the meeting with Kurti “to make deals.”
“The Democratic Party of Kosovo is a state-building party. We have proven this in the most difficult moments for the country, and we carry this responsibility today as well. In the meeting with Mr. Kurti, Chairman Hamza went not to make deals, but to offer real opportunities to break out of this endless cycle of political crises that we have been stuck in for a long time. We went with seriousness, responsibility, and the will to find a solution,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
Çitaku stated that PDK was ready to offer candidacies that “would guarantee institutional security, political balance, and above all, personalities who would be guarantors of the constitutional order.”
“We did not go to offer a formal counter-candidate out of spite or for daily political consumption,” she said, referring to Kurti’s statement that there would likely be a race with party-affiliated candidates for President.
“Kosovo is bigger and more important than any of us. The election of the President is not a test of strength between parties, but a moment that determines institutional stability, citizens’ trust, and our state orientation. Now is the time for the parliamentary majority to reflect,” Çitaku wrote.
