A few days before the deadline for electing the country’s new President, the Vetëvendosje movement appears to have definitively excluded the current President, Vjosa Osmani, from the race.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Glauk Konjufca, told the media that the only candidate with consensus in society is a member of the Jashari family.
“So far, the only names with automatic consensus in our society are for a President from the honorable Jashari family,” said Konjufca, who also gave details on which member of this family could be a potential presidential candidate.
To avoid early elections, members of the Kuvendi i Kosovës must elect the new President no later than March 4.
Even after interparty meetings, no concrete name has emerged for the country’s top position.
However, it became clear from these meetings that none of the political parties, including Vetëvendosje, have supported Vjosa Osmani, who is seeking a second term as President.
On Monday, Albin Kurti said he had not collected signatures for any candidate due to a lack of votes, but analysts say he prefers a President who would not “challenge” him on the international level.
Current President Vjosa Osmani is aiming for another term, and Ramush Haradinaj, who recently resigned as party leader, has expressed readiness to run. However, neither has collected the 30 signatures required by the Constitution to officially run for the presidency. /Shqip.com/
