Surgeon Baton Kelmendi has reacted following the release of a video showing him and another surgeon at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK), Xhevdet Ademaj, involved in a physical altercation.
Dr. Kelmendi stated in his response that he was unexpectedly attacked while he was speaking on the phone. According to him, everything that followed was an act of self-defense, claiming that it was Xhevdet Ademaj who initiated the sudden attack.
Full statement of Dr. Baton Kelmendi:
Dear friends, colleagues, and patients,
Following the publication of the video of the incident that occurred several weeks ago, I feel a moral obligation to express my deep regret regarding the entire situation that was created.
As seen in the footage, I was speaking on the phone when I was suddenly confronted with an unexpected attack. The incident occurred two days after we had a professional debate at the Clinic’s Collegium, a discussion that focused on issues related to treatment and the best interest of the patient.
My reaction was in self-defense. I did not attack anyone and tried to prevent the escalation of the situation.
Nevertheless, I regret that such a situation occurred and that the footage may have disturbed patients, colleagues, and the general public.
As a doctor, I believe that professionalism and respect should always come first.
