The Inspektorati Policor i Kosovës (IPK), in two separate cases, has recommended the suspension of eight police officers in Gjakovë and Gjilan.
The first case occurred on February 19 in Gjakova, where a citizen was initially notified of a parking fine. However, after going to the police station to receive the ticket, the individual was arrested following a conversation with police officers on suspicion of making threats, Reporteri.net writes.
After receiving information about the case, investigators reviewed police reports and analyzed an audio recording, which indicated that the incident did not correspond with what had actually occurred. As a result, six police officers were suspended from duty.
The second case took place in Gjilan, where two police officers were suspended on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “False Reporting.”
Full Statement:
The Kosovo Police Inspectorate, namely its Department of Investigations, in two separate cases recommended to the Policia e Kosovës the suspension of eight police officers in Gjakova and Gjilan.
The first case is reported to have occurred on February 19, 2026, when a citizen in Gjakova was initially notified of a fine for parking a vehicle in a prohibited area. The citizen went to the police station to receive the misdemeanor ticket but, after contact and a conversation with police officers, was arrested on suspicion of making threats.
After receiving information and a complaint regarding the case, IPK investigators began investigative actions, including reviewing case files, police officers’ reports, and analyzing an audio recording.
Following these investigative steps, it was observed that the police officers’ reports—on the basis of which the threats case was initiated—did not match what was heard in the recording and are suspected of being untrue.
IPK investigators consulted with the Prokuroria Themelore në Gjakovë, and further investigative actions will be undertaken against the six police officers through regular procedure on suspicion of the criminal offense of “Abuse of Official Position or Authority.”
In the interest of the investigation, IPK recommended to the Kosovo Police the suspension of the six officers from the Regional Road Traffic Unit of the Gjakova Regional Directorate.
In the other case, IPK recommended to the Kosovo Police the suspension of two police officers in Gjilan.
Investigations regarding this case are being conducted in coordination with the Prokuroria Themelore në Gjilan under regular procedure, on suspicion of the criminal offense of “False Reporting.”
IPK investigators, in continuous consultation with the prosecution, are expected to undertake additional investigative actions to clarify the circumstances of both cases. /Reporteri.net/
