The former KLA commander, Shukri Buja, has proposed that Jakup Krasniqi be elected President of Kosovo.
Buja said that the country needs a bold and sustainable political step.
He stated that his initial proposal would have been former President Hashim Thaçi, but according to him, this may be politically difficult to achieve.
“My proposal, coming from both my heart and mind, would naturally be former President Hashim Thaçi. But knowing the positions of LVV, Mr. Kurti, Ms. Osmani, and the governing coalition, I understand that this may be politically difficult to pass,” he said.
According to Buja, Jakup Krasniqi is a consensual and patriotic figure who does not represent narrow party interests and is not a divisive figure.
“A patriotic personality, marked by sacrifice, dedication, professionalism, and above all a consensual figure. A man who is currently in detention but not convicted. The Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo clearly defines the presumption of innocence and also regulates the exercise of the President’s function in case of temporary inability,” Buja wrote.
