Qatar “reserves the right to respond” against Iran following what it described as a “blatant attack” on the Qatari people, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid Al-Ansari said, adding that the Iranian strikes “cannot go unanswered” and that “a price must be paid.”
Doha is not currently in contact with the Iranian government, as it is focused on defending the country and protecting critical infrastructure, Al-Ansari told CNN’s Becky Anderson on Monday, as reported by Klankosova.tv.
“At the moment, we are not engaging with the government. As you can imagine, we are busy defending our country,” he said.
He added that Qatar faced “more than 100 missiles and dozens of drones,” and said the attacks “also targeted civilian and commercial infrastructure.”
Asked about the risk to Gulf energy facilities, after Saudi Arabia intercepted drones near an oil refinery, Al-Ansari said Qatar was “deeply concerned” about attacks on non-military targets across the region.
He said the Qatari military has taken precautionary measures to protect economic facilities both onshore and offshore, while Gulf leaders are coordinating closely with one another and with the United States.
Qatar is one of the world’s largest exporters of natural gas.
