- The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has expressed his sorrow over the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, following a wave of airstrikes by the United States and Israel.
“I was saddened to learn of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a result of yesterday’s attacks,” Erdogan wrote in a post on the platform X.
The Turkish president also extended his condolences to the Iranian people.
“Together with the people of Iran, we as Turkey will continue our determined efforts to ensure that all our friends and brothers in the region once again find the peace and stability they deserve, that the conflict in our region comes to an end, and that we return to diplomacy,” his statement concluded.
Erdogan’s statement comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, as the latest escalation has shaken the security balance in the region.
