The United Kingdom is expected to experience an unusual phenomenon known as “Red Rain,” according to warnings from European climate scientists.

Experts from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service have announced that a cloud of red Saharan dust is moving toward Europe and will reach Britain, where it will mix with ongoing rainfall. This combination is expected to give the rain a reddish tint.

According to senior scientist Mark Parrington, the dust will pass mainly over southern England at high atmospheric levels. The phenomenon is forecast to last about two hours during the afternoon. Although the name sounds alarming, experts emphasize that “Red Rain” poses no health risk. After the rain dries, only a thin layer of dust is expected to remain on cars and other exposed surfaces.

The phenomenon is linked to strong winds that lift Saharan dust high into the atmosphere. If upper-level air currents blow northward, the particles can travel thousands of kilometers and reach as far as Britain. Meanwhile, the UK’s meteorological service has warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue until mid-March. Authorities stress that the phenomenon is mainly visual and there is no reason for concern.
